About our Tea
• Does your tea have caffeine?
As a rule of thumb, all teas from the tea plant (camellia sinensis) contain caffeine. Therefore black, green, oolong, and white teas all contain various levels of caffeine. Caffeine is most present in teas with more buds (e.g. white tea) because one of caffeine's purposes is to ward off insects. Teas that are steeped at higher temperatures and also ones that are more finely ground (e.g. our Kenyan black Tea) will have more caffeine. Our caffeine estimates on our tea blend page should be treated as such and you should take care when experimenting with how each tea affects you.
• How long does our tea stay fresh?
Teas from the tea plant (camellia sinensis), herbs, and dried fruits all last for different lengths of time. As a rule of thumb, we recommend using all the flavors (tea herbs and dried fruits) within the year following purchase. The teas, herbs, flowers, and spices may last longer than this and the fruits may not stay fresh for quite as long.
• How should I store my tea?
Tea is best stored in a dark, dry, and airtight container at room temperature. The blends will remain fresh in the compostable bags for a few months but will last longer in a glass jar or double-walled tea tin.
• Are there natural or artificial flavors in the tea, herbs or fruit?
We do not use artificial flavors in any of our products. Several of our herbs and dried fruits contain natural flavoring derived from the flavor’s source. This practice is typical within the tea industry as some of the world's most popular teas are flavored (e.g. Earl Grey is always flavored with food-grade bergamot oil). If you are interested in a blend without natural flavors/oils present we can likely accommodate this request (but please leave a note in the tea blending form about this).
Below are our herbs and dried fruits with natural flavoring:
• Jasmine is flavored with natural jasmine flavor
• Peach is flavored with natural peach flavor
• Lemon peel is flavored with natural lemon oil
• Mango is flavored with natural mango flavor
• Rose is flavored with natural rose flavor
• Orange peel is flavored with natural orange oil
• Earl Grey is flavored with natural bergamot oil
• Where do we source our tea and flavors?
Because our teas and flavors are natural crops, the answer can sometimes depend on the origin and season. If you have a query about a specific tea/herb/dried fruit and its origin, please reach out to us via cyoteaco@gmail.com.
